Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,
It’s in the reach of my arms,
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman

Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can’t touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them,
They say they still can’t see.
I say,
It’s in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing,
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need for my care.
’Cause I’m a woman
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Hours on hours

The ever rotating loading symbol will be my death.
That or the incredibly awful excuse for a connection that UT calls 'wifi'
Let it be known that this is only 'wifi' in the loosest sense
Refresh, refresh, refresh.
My computer took vacation
paid in my time
without my permission.
Probably off in an Icelandic wonderland,
Or on the beaches of Greece.
But it is most definitely not here.
In his place
a hunk of metal
incapable of intelligent code
only able to dance the death circle of loading around a non-existent bon fire of my hopes
and dreams.
While I invest all my willpower in not
this useless metal hunk
at a wall.
Because then my computers
"VACAY" may have
an indefinite ending.

4/4 160

Everyone needs those moments in life where your brain stops thinking in seconds
And begins to adventure into one dripping, mind numbing thought with no timeline
Give it moment melting truth
Plug in your headphones
And allow repetitive, rhythmic tones
Rock you
Repetitive rhythmic tasks that allows your mind to fade
Remove yourself into basic tasks
Painting, repainting
Repetitive rhythmic strokes to the beat of your repetitive rhythmic music
And slowly lose your mind
What is a moment
Crush all the moments together
Evaluate who you are
Who you will be
Tally all the times you've said 'and'
Compress them into a thought that lasts a moment
Not a second
Just one, thoughtless thought
Think big
But then think small
Lose yourself
In stereotypical melodies you've heard 2,000 times in 4,00 songs
And assess the damages in your compressed memory life
Before you get too busy to forget at all.

H. M.

Boredom bleeding out eye balls
Sockets streaming saddened taste
What is this new mind numbness
What a waste
Of words and pictures forever wasted
Ever sweating
A streaming
Sickly sticky
Not so sweetness
Melting all that was brand new

I am thinking deep thoughts
I am thinking deep thoughts
I am wishing
And wondering
And thinking deep thoughts
Of struggle
And hunger
And pain
And lust
And fairness
Drought and slobs
I am reminiscing and learning
Caring and assuring
I am wishing
I am wondering
I am thinking deep thoughts.
